We are just putting the finishing touches to our kitchen extension. It has taken way longer than anticipated, but it’s looking beautiful! One of the final jobs was to paint our kitchen window, which is a huge wooden sash. We actually bought the window before we built the extension as a more cost effective process than building the window hole then sourcing one to fit. This is what it looked like when we put it in before we transformed it with Dixie Belle Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint®.
This one is roughly eight foot wide by six foot tall. It’s solid wood and double glazed. We bought it from Facebook Marketplace for £80, which, as you can imagine is a complete bargain! One of the panes has blown so it will need replacing, but it’s honestly saved us hundreds of pounds, and is just so pretty! Our house is old too, so the style works really well.
We also chose to replace the old brass locking fitch fastener with modern ones that lock with a key. We have kept the old ones though as they will polish up beautifully and we will use them on a different project.
The main issue with them was that you could lift up the sash when the fitch was half closed and damage the window above. You can’t do this with the new ones.
We have painted it with Dixie Belle Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint® in Salt Water. It went on really smoothly and the finish is beautiful. It took two coats as the window really needed it! It’s not the best angle – as it’s behind a kitchen island (you can see what will be the island to the bottom right of the photo – it’s waiting for its worktop which will be white sparkly quartz!)
As the name suggests, you don’t need a top-coat with this paint, and it is washable afterwards (which is really needed with kids around!).
We have also used the Silk Mineral paint for doors and skirtings in the kitchen and it looks so clean and fresh. The colour is a beautiful soft white, not a harsh white gloss.
I just need to find a huge blind for it now that doesn’t cover it up too much!
We were invited to try Dixie Belle paint, but as always, all opinions are my own.
